When I work with women, this is my approach.

When I started to become involved in the fitness industry, I realised that so much of the talk was around pushing through at all costs. The assumption was that the gym was the most important part of the day and it was happy teaching us how to ignore our own body in the name of 'gains'.

This doesn't sit well with me and here's why.

We are whole people. We don't exercise in isolation from the rest of our lives. This means there is so much more to consider when we are working on adding exercise into our life in a way that is sustainable and helpful for our health (both physically & mentally) Each of the layers in this pyramid directly impact each other, especially as we move up the pyramid. You can see that exercise is the very tip of the pyramid and there's ALOT underneath it. When we ignore things like our physiological load and our emotional & mental wellbeing (which is the foundation) we hinder our real ability to become healthy across all areas of our life.

This is why...

We practice checking in with ourselves at each session.

This is also why...

I will ask if you've remembered to eat, what your stress levels are like, how you're feeling emotionally, if you've slept, had some water and what level of trust you have in yourself.

Because it all matters.

When you start to unpack this pyramid, you can start to learn the areas that are working for you and the ones that aren't - that is the place to start. So you can build a solid health based vision for how you want to feel.

I love working with women to work through all of this in a way that feels good for them and brings them home to themselves with real tools that help. Anything that outsources our choices or tells us not to trust what's going on in our bodies is not something I will ever align with.
