Mama’s Day Reflection

Writer's picture: Renee LeemingRenee Leeming

Sometimes I still look at these tiny humans and think, “where the heck did you come from and where’s your mama.” Do you think the same? I mean, it’s not like I forget that I carried them, birthed them and have raised them every day since they arrived. It’s not like I haven’t felt every inch of joy and struggle and growth that has come along with Mothering them. It’s not like my life hasn’t been forever changed since becoming their Mama. These girls have turned my world upside down in excruciating and beautiful ways and I have felt all of it. And still I look at them and think, how am I here, when did this happen. When did I become a dance partner, a princess with powers, a leader, a confidante, a safe place, a holder of all the emotions, and a loyal & fierce protector of two little girls. Two little girls who are 100% themselves and also hold part of me in them. Two little girls who will listen to some life lessons from me and completely ignore others. Two little girls who will have struggles and fears and breakdowns and breakthroughs. Two little girls who look at me and see their entire world. When did it happen, when did I become this? The minute I became a Mother. I hold an endless love for two little humans who will never know the impact they have had on me. I’m constantly surprised and in awe of how much mamahood demands of us, I’m also so proud of how we can adapt and grow and become more of ourselves through the process. Not just for our little people but for ourselves, so that we as women, can know who we are and what we’re made of. Love, grit, grace, gentleness, fierceness, joy, strength, patience and a whole lot of awesome. We hold it all, we’ve got it all – Motherhood asks that of us. You’re doing well Mama, Happy Mother’s day.
