Mama, is it time to dance in the rain?

"Life isn't about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain" - Vivian Greene -

This quote has been coming up since I saw it on the side of a huge RV named "Rain Dancer" parked alongside us at the beach side campground we stayed at while we were away. It was quite fitting really as we witnessed our first big storm of our trip that evening.

I'm not sure if I've shared with you yet about my focus for this year being 'spaciousness.' Having time away allowed me, for the first time in a long time, to start to unwind. No reception, no timelines or deadlines, no rushing.

I get that "this is what holidays are for", but it was also a stark reminder for me that my body and mind does not thrive in a chronically stressed state (to be clear, know ones does.) Knowing this commitment feels important this year. I've had to make some hard decisions which have freaked me out and popped me into the unknown - yes this is scary and hard but so is the alternative of staying in a state knowing it's not good for my physical or mental health.

I've decided to learn to dance in the rain rather than drowning in the puddles it makes. Things happen to us all the time, many of which we may not see coming and so setting up a sustainable rhythm in our lives that actually supports us is crucial for living and feeling well.

As Mums, we have so much going on in our lives, we're so willing to put others first, many of us want to be perfect at everything and to please everybody but let's not do that at the expense of ourselves anymore.

Let's learn to dance in the rain and not drown in the puddles.

Let's remember the No is a full sentence.

Let's remember that a good community is really important.

Let's remember to make changes to our schedule where we can so that it supports US in a healthy way.

Let's remember that we don't belong at the bottom of the priority list and that we're worth investing in time, money and energy in.

So Mama, will you learn to dance in the rain this year?
