Don’t sit out of your own life.

Hey Lovely Mama,

Don’t sit this one out. Don’t choose not to participate because of how you look (or how you feel you look). Don’t sit there thinking you don’t have a place in this place. Don’t create a story that you need to look a certain way to show up, adventure and have fun. Do 👏 not 👏 do 👏 it.

I have been making so much of an effort this summer to make sure I participate in all the activities, to swim, to pretend I’m a mermaid, to splash and have fun.

Perry is only 4 once and this summer, this is a summer we won’t get again. My body doesn’t feel familiar to me, I don’t necessarily feel great all the time in it, but guess what Perry sees – she see’s her Mama making memories, she remembers being a mermaid with me, she sees me using my body to play with her.

I don’t want her to wonder why I don’t participate. Partly because I want to make these memories so badly and partly because I don’t want to pass a story on to her that she can’t do something because of how she feels in her body (or how she looks.)

These days are precious, please don’t sit out of your own life because of how you’re feeling in your body.

(Also, this year, I’ve opted for a bike short and a bra thingy combo as my swimmers. Not conventional but I feel capable and strong and good in them. And they’re great for pretending to be a mermaid.)
