Crappy Body Image Day? I see you.

Updated: Mar 15, 2022

I like the idea of body image resilience – have you heard of it?

According to Dr. Lindsay & Dr. Lexie Kite it is “a practical & continuous process of facing body shame triggers & responding in strategic ways that reconnect you with your body & your sense of self.”

This is super helpful if “body positivity” or even “body neutrality” feels out of reach, which it might some days.

We’ve all experienced the body shame triggers. Could be jeans not fitting, could be the beach, could be comparing ourselves to others, could be a comment from someone or about someone else, could be getting a beautiful gift that happens to not fit & letting that ruin your day (may or may not be a recent personal experience 🙄) . It sucks & we also know it impacts how we show up (or don’t show up) in the world. Which also sucks.

Working on our body image is really important and sometimes feels really hard, a bit like 1 step forward, 2 steps backward.

On a crappy body image day, doing something to BE in your body like movement or breath work or using it to play rather than viewing it through a lense of how you think others see you can be really helpful.

Today, I lifted some heavy weights and it felt good. Because my body is good, and so is yours, no matter how it looks.
